The Barnyard Collection is one of my newest series of works inspired by my rural life. When I moved out to the country, I dreamed of having a big garden, chickens, and a slow-paced life. Little did I know that within two years, I’d have a full-blown farm with all the animals. It’s lovely and chaotic and provides endless inspiration. Most animals in the collection are my own, though some are animals on neighboring farms. It all began with Daisy, my favorite duck. After a long day of painting meticulous details on other paintings, I wanted something fun and relaxing. I decided to experiment with color and looseness and let go of the tighter work I felt bound to. Not only was the painting a success, but it has also inspired me to pursue that style further.
